O'Neill says invasion of Grenada justified

House Speaker Thomas O'Neill has given his blessing to President Reagan's decision to invade Grenada, accepting his fact-finding delegation's conclusion that the action was necessary to protect American lives.

Mr. O'Neill at first referred to the invasion as ''gunboat diplomacy,'' once called the policy ''wrong,'' and then said little while US troops were actively fighting on the island. But Tuesday he said after a two-hour meeting with the 14 -member congressional delegation that the intervention was ''justified.''
