Council delays decision on homosexual church
The National Council of Churches (NCC) has voted to ''postpone indefinitely'' a decision on the membership eligibility of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC), a denomination formed in 1968 to serve homosexuals.
The council, meeting here last week, found the church met all formal membership requirements, but decided to put off an admission vote after representatives of several other churches said they would leave the NCC if a church established for homosexuals were admitted. Council leaders said the decision was designed to allow dialogue with the UFMCC to continue.
