Iraq reports sinking of seven ships in Gulf
Iraq said its forces Monday destroyed seven ships sailing from Iran's Kharg Island oil terminal and shot down one Iranian fighter plane. A military spokesman, quoted by Baghdad Radio, did not identify what type of vessels were involved. He referred only to seven ''enemy naval targets,'' but said they had been sailing from Kharg Island, in the Gulf, to the Iranian port of Bandar Khomeini.
The spokesman said Iraqi planes later shot down an Iranian F-14 fighter.
