Reagan plans to establish formal ties with Vatican

President Reagan plans to establish formal diplomatic relations with the Vatican, administration officials said Wednesday. The officials said William Wilson, the President's current personal representative to the Vatican, was the logical choice for ambassador.

Congress last month removed a prohibition dating from 1867 on the use of federal funds to support any diplomatic mission to the Vatican.
