US envoy has more talks with minister in Damascus
US special Middle East envoy Donald Rumsfeld held a second round of talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Abdel Halim Khaddam Thursday as Syrian news media repeated attacks on the US shelling of Syrian positions in Lebanon. US officials said they believed Rumsfeld's visit would lead to an ease in tensions.
State-run Damascus radio said Syria would respond with force to US attacks, stating Syria was ''capable of inflicting harm on the aggressors more than they expect.'' In Moscow, Pravda said the US was turning the Mediterranean into a new East-West flashpoint.
