Mondale gains support of Mine Workers union
The United Mine Workers union Wednesday endorsed Walter Mondale for president in 1984. Mr. Mondale now has the support of the AFL-CIO and two of the three major independent unions: the UMW and the National Education Association. The Teamsters backed President Reagan in 1980 and are expected to do so again.
Meanwhile, Manfred Ohrenstein, New York Senate minority leader, resigned as head of Sen. John Glenn's presidential campaign in New York, because the Democrat refused to back homosexual-rights legislation. Mr. Ohrenstein was one of the few major New York Democrats to endorse the former astronaut.
