House unit plans hearings on Salvadorean abuses
The House Foreign Affairs subcommittee on Western Hemisphere affairs plans to hold hearings next month on human rights abuses in El Salvador. US Rep. Michael D. Barnes (D) of Maryland, subcommittee chairman, said he had asked Secretary of State George Shultz to testify at the hearings. Mr. Barnes said Mr. Shultz would be asked to address the same issues he would have been questioned about had President Reagan not vetoed a bill last month linking US aid for El Salvador to improvement in the country's human rights record.
