Hotel fires reported in New York, Boston

A smoky two-alarm fire at the fashionable 43-story Essex House Hotel in midtown Manhattan forced about 250 guests into the cold early morning air Tuesday, fire officials said. The cause of the fire was not known.

In Boston, an electrical fire forced the evacuation of more than 100people from the luxurious new Westin Hotel on Monday. Officials reported more than $500 ,000 worth of damage. The hotel guests were put up at another across the street.

No major injuries were reported in either fire.
