Unemployment rate in US drops to 8.2 percent

The nation's unemployment rate dropped to 8.2 percent last month, finishing 1983 at its lowest level in more than two years, the US Department of Labor said Friday.

The Department said some 335,000 people returned to work in December alone. About 4 million workers have regained employment since the economic recovery got under way.
