Special note: 'Israel in Egypt'

Wednesday night, one of Boston's more distinguished musicians, David Hoose, will lead the Cantata Singers and ensemble in George Frederick Handel's seldom-performed oratorio, "Israel in Egypt," with its almost never included Part I, "The Lament of the Israelites." Hoose recently conducted the US premiere of Peter Maxwell Davies's "The Lighthouse" in a performance that at least one critic rated better than Davie's own Fires of London ensemble. Singers Jeffrey Gall, James Maddalena, and Lorraine Hunt sweeten the promise of a very promising performance indeed. (Sanders Theatre, 8 p.m.)
