A clarification

In last month's Personal Finance section, it was stated that contributions to 401(k) salary reduction plans were free of both federal and social security taxes for the employer and the employee. While this was true in 1983, a change in the tax law made 401(k) contributions subject to social security taxes as of Jan. 1, 1984.
