Jackson, in bid for amity, seeks discussion with Jews
The Rev. Jesse Jackson charged ''certain members of the Jewish community'' Tuesday with disrupting his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination and appealed for an open dialogue with Jewish leaders.
Mr. Jackson said some Jews who oppose his candidacy had picketed and harassed his campaign workers. He expressed concern about ''Jews Against Jackson,'' a group founded by Rabbi Meir Kahane, head of the militant Jewish Defense League.
Jackson embraces several controversial Middle East policies. He has supported creation of a Palestinian homeland, criticized Israel for expanding settlements in occupied territories and for offensive use of US-supplied weaponry, and urged both the US and Israel to talk with the Palestine Liberation Organization.
