Filipino tells Congress he was asked to kill Aquino
A man claiming to belong to a Philippines military death squad filed an affidavit with Congress Wednesday attesting that he was asked by a top military official to assassinate political opposition leader Benigno Aquino.
Mr. Aquino was murdered Aug. 21 as he returned to Manila after three years' exile in the United States.
Jose Fronda Santos, who said he did not comply with the assassination request , was not permitted to testify publicly before a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee because his appearance was not prearranged.
In the affidavit, Mr. Santos said that Gen. Luther Custodio, chief of intelligence of the Presidential Security Command, asked him to ''kill Senator Aquino without embarrassment to President Marcos.''
