Soviet news agency likens US leadership to Nazis

The Soviet news agency Tass compared the Reagan administration to the leadership of Nazi Germany and called on Americans to remember that they had fought with Moscow against Hitler.

''Nowadays the entire huge military machine of the USA prepares to repeat what was done by Hitler and his Wehrmacht, only the scope of this preparation is immeasurably greater,'' Tass said. The Reagan administration, ''like the Nazi German leaders in their time,'' is ''stirring up hatred for the Soviet Union,'' Tass added. The remarks were made in connection with the publication of a booklet on US-Soviet relations from 1941 to 1945.

Western diplomats expect fierce Soviet attacks on President Reagan to continue this year as part of a drive to brand him a warmonger in advance of November's presidential election.
