Chile's bishop ask regime to declare for democracy

Chile's Roman Catholic bishops called Wednesday on the military government of President Augusto Pinochet to show clearly its desire to bring about a return to democracy.

The bishops also called for the police and security forces to refrain from unnecessary violence.

The military government meanwhile ordered four more opposition magazines to present the contents of each issue for official inspection before publication and pressed charges against the editor of one of them arrested Tuesday.
