House approves foreign aid to Central America
The House of Representatives gave President Reagan a significant victory on military aid to El Salvador Thursday. By a margin of 212 to 208, the Democrat-controlled House adopted a Republican foreign-aid amendment that would authorize $120 million in emergency security assistance for El Salvador and other Central American countries. It would impose relatively easy conditions on further Salvadoran aid.
The White House said Reagan was extremely pleased by the vote, which he felt ''sends a solid signal of US resolve to support friends in this hemisphere.''
The Republican-controlled Senate will act next on the aid plan.
