Manila Cabinet resigns to let Marcos reorganize

The government said Thursday that President Ferdinand Marcos's powerful wife and his 29 other Cabinet members have resigned to let him reorganize his administration.

Mr. Marcos has dropped plans to add more appointed members to the National Assembly following major opposition gains in the May 14 election, a government spokesman said.

The latest results showed that of the 183 Assembly seats at stake in the election, Marcos's ruling New Society Movement has won 89, with 54 going to opposition parties and a few independent candidates. Opponents of Marcos's party were leading in many of the 40 races still undecided.
