Nicaraguan leaders meet with Chernenko, Gromyko
President Konstantin Chernenko met in the Kremlin Monday with the leader of Nicaragua's ruling Sandinist junta, Daniel Ortega Saavedra, the official Tass news agency said.
It gave few details of the meeting, which followed Mr. Ortega's talks earlier with Geidar Aliev, first deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers. Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko met with Henry Ruiz Hernandez, Nicaraguan minister of planning.
Before his arrival, Mr. Ortega had said he would seek Soviet MIG or French Mirage jet fighters to combat CIA-backed rebels attacking Nicaragua's northern and southern borders.
