Solidarity accuses regime of inflating election count
The underground of the outlawed Solidarity trade union has accused Communist authorities of inflating the turnout for Sunday's elections by 15 to 20 percent. In a communique released in Warsaw on Wednesday, Solidarity said its analysis showed a 57.4 percent turnout in the capital, with all but 14 voting stations canvassed.
The government reported the turnout for the elections, the first since the creation of Solidarity nearly four years ago, at 71 percent in Warsaw and just under 75 percent nationwide.
Solidarity's tallies from other Polish cities were expected to be issued later in the week.
