Iraq claims to have hit 5 naval targets

Iraq said its Navy destroyed five naval targets near the major Iranian port of Bandar Khomeini Sunday. It said two others were damaged by mines as they tried to flee. An Iranian plane was also shot down, a military spokesman said.

Iraq did not identify the ''naval targets,'' but it customarily uses that phrase to refer to oil tankers and other ships in the Persian Gulf trading with its Iranian enemy.

There was no immediate confirmation of the attack from independent sources or from Iran.
