Orlando, Atlanta banks in a $14 billion merger

Sun Banks Inc. and the Trust Company of Georgia announced an agreement Monday to form a new regional company with assets of $14 billion, the largest combination in Southeastern banking history.

The new company will be known as SunTrust Inc. The combination is the first announced under regional interstate banking laws passed this year by both Florida and Georgia.
