British dock strike slowing delivery of surface mail

The dock strike in Britain is causing lengthy delays of surface mail intended for delivery in Great Britain and Ireland, the US Postal Service said. All British ports are closed, and the mail is being diverted to other European ports for the duration of the strike.

US postal officials say surface mail for Britain and Ireland will continue to be accepted at post offices but suggest that mailers use other options, such as airmail, Express Mail International Service, and space-available service.
