German official finds Iran may be more open with West

West German Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher is carrying a message to other members of the European Community that says Tehran is ready to seek closer cooperation with the West, sources said.

Genscher spoke with Iranian officials about the Persian Gulf war and human rights in Iran, among other topics. He is the first foreign minister from a European Community nation to visit Iran since its Islamic revolution five years ago.
