Agriculture secretary urges more flexible farm legislation
Agriculture Secretary John R. Block urged state lawmakers Thursday to join forces in pressing for ''more flexible '' national farm legislation. He said the current law does not meet the needs of either the farmer or the American economy. Addressing the National Conference of State Legislatures here, Secretary Block said the current farm program is inflexible and fails to reflect changing conditions. He added that American farmers are hard hit by ''still too high interest rates'' and ''a strong American dollar,'' which weakens the competitive advantage of US exports in world markets.
