Honduran panel asks halt in US troop training setup

A high-powered Honduran government commission has advised President Roberto Suazo Cordova to halt a US training program for Salvadorean troops, pending the solution of a border dispute with El Salvador. The commission also recommended a halt on joint maneuvers involving Salvadorean troops.

Although diplomats here doubted that the commission report would actually result in a freeze on the training program, it reflected a growing feeling that Honduras is not getting enough in return for its cooperation with the United States.
