Britain, France and USSR to join Red Sea mine search
Britain and France agreed Thursday to an Egyptian request to join the United States in searching for mines in the Red Sea that have disrupted navigation, as thousands of Mecca-bound Muslim pilgrims begin to set sail in groups across the waterway to Jiddah, Saudi Arabia, for annual religious ceremonies.
A Soviet mine sweeper also joined the international hunt yesterday, where West German government sources said it was operating in the southern reaches of the water way.
