FCC delays plan extending limit on TV station ownership
The Federal Communications Commission, bowing to congressional displeasure, has temporarily abandoned its plan to allow broadcast companies to acquire more TV stations.
The agency voted unexpectedly last week to defer the effective date of an order that would allow any firm to own 12 TV stations instead of the current limit of seven at least until April 1, 1985. The higher limit would have taken effect Sept. 8.
The stay does not affect another portion of the same order raising the limit on the number of radio stations that may be acquired.
