US Green Berets begin maneuvers in Honduras
In the latest exercise to demonstrate backing for friendly Central American governments, nearly 200 US Army Green Beret troops have started counterinsurgency maneuvers in Honduras. They began Monday and will continue through August.
Meanwhile in Tegucigalpa, Honduran President Roberto Suazo Cordova has denied that the purge of his economic Cabinet resulted from pressure from the US or international economic officials. Mr. Suazo, who has faced growing criticism over his administration's handling of the economy, requested the resignation of his entire 13-man Cabinet last Friday. Observers said the changes would do little to improve the economic crisis.
