GE displays model of new jet at an international air show

The 120-passenger airliner of the future may be powered by a propfan jet engine with a set of eight or more contra-rotating propellers that look like shark fins. General Electric unveiled a mockup of the design, called UDF, for ''unducted fan,'' at the Farnborough International Air Show herelast weekend.

Three Soviet aircraft also stood alongside the West's newest aviation jewels at the fair, the first time the communist superpower has taken part in the air sales jamboree.
