Morocco seeks to clarify its Libyan union for US

A top adviser to Morocco's King Hassan II met with Secretary of State George P. Shultz Wednesday, intent on clarifying his government's motives for entering into a unity treaty with Libya last month.

US officials appear convinced that Morocco's decision was taken for national-security reasons and does not imply the King's sympathy or support for Libyan foreign policy goals.
