S. Africa bans book by Monitor writer
| Johannesburg
June Goodwin, a former correspondent in South Africa for The Christian Science Monitor, has been banned. The book, ''Cry Amandla!'' looks in particular at the attitudes of women - black and white - toward apartheid in South Africa.
Thousands of new publications are banned each year in South Africa by secretive publications committees. The people serving on the committees and the reasons for their decisions are not disclosed to the general public.
But in the case of Ms. Goodwin's book, the banning appears to stem from the fact that some of the women quoted in the book have themselves been banned.
