Senate ethics panel votes to end review on Hatfield
The Senate Ethics Committee, saying it uncovered ''no credible information,'' voted unanimously Tuesday to end its review of whether Sen. Mark Hatfield's dealings with a Greek businessman posed a conflict of interest.
The committee staff began the inquiry last month after Mr. Hatfield disclosed that his wife, Antoinette, had received $55,000 in real estate commissions from Basil Tsakos at the same time that Hatfield, an Oregon Republican, was helping Mr. Tsakos promote a proposed trans-African oil pipeline.
The Justice Department is conducting a separate investigation into Hatfield's actions.
