Filipino President authorized to alter economic proposals

The ruling party authorized President Ferdinand Marcos Wednesday to amend decrees aimed at lifting the Philippines from its worst economic crisis since World War II, in an attempt to defuse antigovernment protests. The economic measures would also facilitate approval of a $650 million standby credit from the International Monetary Fund.
