Lawyer for kin of suspect in Aquino case is jailed

Police on Tuesday jailed Lupino Lazaro, the lawyer for the family of Roland Galman, who the government says killed Benigno Aquino. He is charged with libel. Mr. Lazaro refused to post bail and said the jailing was an attempt to keep his mouth shut on the assassination.

As part of the same libel case, police also issued warrants against a publisher and two journalists. All four were wanted in the $6 million libel case filed by Eduardo Cojuangco, a wealthy businessmen who is an ambassador and close ally of President Marcos.

The panel investigating the airport assassination has delayed its report while its members reportedly argue over whether to name the armed forces chief, Gen. Fabian C. Ver, as part of a military conspiracy.
