There were few surprises in the consumer price report released yesterday. It echoed the relatively stable price trend of the last three years. Since last September, inflation went up a mild 4.2 percent.

Consumer prices rose a modest 0.4 percent for the month, both giving the 37 million people on social security a 3.5 percent raise and completing the figures needed to set the new tax indexing rate for 1985.
