Social security recipients get their cost-of-living increase

President Reagan signed legislation Tuesday ensuring a cost-of-living increase for 36.1 million social security beneficiaries whose increases once appeared threatened by the low rate of inflation.

He also signed into law legislation setting aside as wilderness areas more than 1 million acres of federal land in six states. The states involved are Wyoming, Tennessee, Virginia, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico and Pennsylvania.
