Ex-Solidarity official seeks strike to mark priest's funeral

Solidarity's former deputy leader, Andrzej Gwiazda, called yesterday for a one-hour general strike in Gdansk during tomorrow's funeral mass for the Rev. Jerzy Popieluszko, the murdered priest. The strike would be against political terrorism. Mr. Gwiazda said he had not discussed the call for the stoppage with former Solidarity leader Lech Walesa.

Meanwhile, the Soviet news agency Tass issued its first reference to the murder of the Polish priest on Wednesday, saying it was being exploited to block the normalization of Polish relations with the West and to set the state and church against each other. It quoted the Polish news agency as saying those guilty of the murder had been found, but did not mention official Polish charges that three police officers were responsible.
