Commission to investigate Gandhi assassination

Indira Gandhi's assassination will be investigated by an official commission of inquiry headed by a Supreme Court judge, the Press Trust of India news agency reported. It said the decision to set up the commission was taken at a meeting of Rajiv Gandhi's new Cabinet in New Delhi yesterday.Allegations that the assassination was part of a large conspiracy headed by an Army general gained wider currency Sunday as several national newspapers carried new plot claims. The Defense Ministry issued an official denial of earlier reports that a general was involved in a conspiracy to kill Mrs. Gandhi and others.
