250,000 attend funeral of murdered Polish priest

An estimated 250,000 Poles attended the funeral of a slain pro-Solidarity priest, Rev. Jerzy Popieluszko, on Saturday. Thousands then marched three miles through Warsaw, cheering Lech Walesa, who spoke at the funeral, and chanting ''There is no freedom without Solidarity!'' Dozens of riot police with trucks and water cannons accompanied the marchers but they did not interfere. No incidents were reported.

The Czechoslovak Charter 77 human-rights group condemned the slaying of Fr. Popieluszko and described him as a martyr, according to emigre sources.
