Some progress seen in session on Israeli exit from LebanonUN chief backs conference to coordinate food aid efforts

UN Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar has endorsed the idea of a UN-sponsored conference to coordinate emergency food assistance to millions of starving Africans.

In Kembolcha, Ethiopia, 100-pound sacks of wheat being loaded from a truck onto a Soviet MI-8 helicopter last week bore the stamp ''Furnished by the People of the United States of America.'' Americans and Soviets, in one of their major emergency-response efforts since World War II, were working together on airlifts taking food and supplies to Ethiopian famine victims.
