Chilean opposition calls protest strike

Opposition forces called a national strike Wednesday, the second day of a two-day protest during which the the military government has deployed thousands of troops and fired on protesters in Santiago.

A moderate-leftist coalition is calling for an end to 11 years of military rule by President Augusto Pinochet, who suspended civil liberties with a state of siege Nov. 6.
