Pentagon's research chief returning to private life
Dr. Richard D. DeLauer is resigning as undersecretary of defense for research and engineering to return to private business, the Defense Department announced Thursday.
Mr. DeLauer, one of the top three civilian executives under Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger, will leave Friday, spokesman Michael Burch said, adding that DeLauer's decision was a personal one and that ''no big shake-up'' of the higher echelons at the Pentagon is expected.
