US sanctions against Poland were 'fiasco,' says Polish TV

State-run television, reacting to reports that the US will lift its objection to Poland's joining the International Monetary Fund, said Saturday the decision proved that US sanctions were a ''fiasco.''

The commentary on the evening newscast also said that the US had left in force the harshest economic sanctions against Poland's Communist government and continued its ''propaganda aggression.''

Government spokesman Jerzy Urban said there would be no official reaction before the expected announcement today in Washington. Rejoining the IMF would make it easier for Warsaw to obtain credit to pay off its $35 billion foreign debt.
