No Union Carbide comment on report it tried to sell plant

A Union Carbide spokesman said Monday he could not confirm or deny a trade-magazine report that the company tried to sell its plant in Bhopal, India, earlier this year.

Chemical Engineering magazine says in its Dec. 24 issue that Union Carbide reportedly tried to sell the Bhopal plant before the release two weeks ago of poisonous fumes that killed more than 2,000 people. The Indian government reportedly worked to prevent the shutdown.
