US imbalance on imports sets new quarterly mark

The US balance-of-payments deficit reached a record of $32.9 billion in the third quarter, on the way to breaking $100 billion for the year, the Commerce Department said Monday.

The third quarter's deficit in the current account was $8.2 billion worse than the second quarter and $13.2 billion worse than the first quarter.
