The battle for Guadalupe Nuevo. The fight to get out the vote in a low-income section of Manila
It began at about 3 p.m. at a polling place in Guadalupe Nuevo. About 1,000 workers for the citizens' election watchdog group arrived at the same time as six alleged Marcos supporters came in wielding sticks and guns. Many election officials fled. Others barricaded doors or clung to ballot boxes. The citizens' group confronted the men. Chairs were thrown, crowds scattered, then regrouped, seeking a fight. By 3:30, policemen arrived and chased the men from the school. No one was arrested.
