Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

April 1981 Becomes Moscow bureau chief for US News & World Report. Aug. 23, 1986 FBI arrests Gennady Zakharov, Soviet UN employee, on spy charges. Aug. 30 KGB arrests Daniloff after he accepted package from Soviet acquaintance. Sept. 7 Daniloff charged with espionage. Sept. 12 Daniloff and Zakharov released into the custody of respective embassies pending trial. Sept. 23-28 Shultz and Shevardnadze meet on Daniloff and Zakharov. Sept. 29 Daniloff leaves Moscow.
