THE HOLLYWOOD WRITER'S STRIKE MAY END Sunday, when the 9,000-members Writers Guild of America votes on a proposed contract recommended by its leaders. The Guild failed to achieve one key aim, a substantial improvement in payment for reruns of TV shows aired in foreign markets. But leaders feared prolonging the 22-week strike could weaken the union. The Guild says it did win improvements in creative control over scripts and re-acquisition of original screenplays. MOTOWN RECORDS HAS BEEN BOUGHT by the MCA entertainment conglomerate. Motown was the creator of the now-legendary ``Motown sound,'' typified in recordings by the Supremes, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and others. Motown was formed in 1959 by Bernard Gordy Jr., and put out more than 100 No. 1 singles from 1961 to '83.
