Singing the alphabet with Colby
Every night I'm prepared to sing you a new song - and every night you choose the old one, encouraging your absent-minded mother to do at least one thing consistently day by day. How this tames your dreams or could shape our future I don't know, but I have set aside my previous repertory of lullabies, and your clear voice launches out on the small hills and valleys of the tune with full confidence that I'll follow. - And you have explained to me that a poem about singing the alphabet is above all a poem about singing. - And so I do.
