THE SEATTLE ART MUSEUM will present a major exhibition encompassing three separate shows of recent New York art: one on the beginning of the Abstract Expressionist movement in the mid-1940s; another on the work of Jasper Johns; and the third (``New Work New York'') featuring seven contemporary painters. The exhibition opens Nov. 23 and continues through Jan. 15. THE NATIONAL ORCHESTRAL INSTITUTE is offering full-tuition room-and-board scholarships for musicians of college age. The institute will be held June 9-July 1 at the University of Maryland. Auditions at regional locations will be held January through March. For information call (301) 454-5276, or write the institute, Office of Summer Programs, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742. THE WANG CELEBRITY SERIES, in its 50th year of bringing cultural events to Boston, reported that this season's subscription base exceeds last year's by more than 600 subscriptions. One factor was a Sunday matinee series for senior citizens. The offer immediately drew an audience of 300 subscribers. ``I think we are responding to an unanswered need,'' a spokesman said. ``Affordable arts events for the elderly population are few and far between, especially at reasonable prices and at times of day when seniors want to go.''
